Great Wall Trek Challenges for Charities

For many international charities, bucket-list trekking challenges have become powerful fundraising experiences — from Mount Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp, to the Inca Trail and the Great Wall of China.

Since 2010, Great Wall Hiking has worked behind the scenes as a trusted China ground operator for charity organisations from the UK and Australia, providing the local expertise and operational support required to deliver successful Great Wall fundraising expeditions.

We operate on a white-label basis, allowing charities to run their own branded fundraising challenges while we manage the China-side delivery. Charities remain responsible for their fundraising campaigns, participant communication, and marketing activities, while our experienced local team takes care of the complex logistics and on-the-ground operation.

Our signature Great Wall charity challenge is typically a 5–7 day trekking expedition through some of the most spectacular sections of the Great Wall. Participants hike across mountain landscapes, explore ancient watchtowers, and experience one of the world’s greatest historical landmarks away from the busiest tourist routes.

The trekking experience is combined with the cultural highlights of Beijing, creating a complete China adventure. Participants can visit the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, with optional visits to the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven. Authentic cultural activities such as Chinese calligraphy workshops, dumpling making, and local experiences can also be included.

As a licensed local tour operator in China, Great Wall Hiking provides professional operational standards and peace of mind for charity partners. We carry liability insurance, and all of our guides receive first-aid training to support participant safety throughout the expedition. Our team has extensive experience managing international groups and understands the importance of careful planning, risk management, and dependable delivery.

We are also committed to responsible travel and low-impact trekking practices. During Great Wall expeditions, we reduce unnecessary plastic waste by using large water tanks to provide drinking water for participants instead of relying on individual bottled water throughout the trekking days. We also work closely with local guesthouses, restaurants, and service providers, helping direct tourism spending into the communities along the trekking routes.

By choosing local suppliers and supporting small community businesses, we aim to ensure that tourism creates positive benefits beyond the participants themselves. The journey becomes not only a personal challenge but also a meaningful connection with the people and places of China.

We handle the complete local operation, including trekking route planning, safety preparation, transportation, accommodation coordination, guide services, supplier management, and group logistics.

For charity organisations seeking their next bucket-list fundraising challenge, the Great Wall offers a unique adventure combining physical achievement, cultural discovery, and responsible travel — supported by an experienced local partner working behind the scenes.
